Developmental Training
Developmental Training is an active day program for adults with severe developmental disabilities.
Program Description
Developmental Training combines daily living skills instruction, community outings, vocational training and recreation to create an active day program for men and women with severe developmental disabilities.
A variety of activities are provided, with a strong focus on life skills and learning opportunities. Examples include book club, current events, exercise and more. Field trips to interesting sites in the community are a frequent occurence, and have included the Morton Arboretum, Brookfield Zoo, Shedd Aquarium, bowling alley, and shopping. Outings generally take place in small groups of about 4 clients, to allow for more individualized attention at the sites.
Geographic Area Served
A segment of DuPage County generally bounded by North Avenue on the north, Route 83 on the east, I-55 on the south and Route 59 on the west.
Eligibility
Individuals interested in receiving services through Developmental Training must:
- be at least 16 years of age
- have a developmental disability that interferes significantly with their ability to be gainfully employed in the community
- possess a state-issued identification card and a Social Security card
- be legally eligible to work in the United States
- behave in a manner that does not endanger the safety of others, or significantly disrupt the program
- be eligible for third-party funding from the Department of Human Services, DHS/Office of Rehabilitation or Social Security Administration, and have an award letter indicating the amount of funding
- complete all requirements of Spectrum's intake process
- be able to benefit from the services offered
For the DT Medicaid Waiver Program, the following criteria also apply:
- must be determined eligible for Medicaid-Waiver services by the Illinois Department of Public Aid
- must be approved for the program by the appropriate Case Coordination Unit (PASARR screening)
- must not be currently enrolled in any other Medicaid Waiver funded program
Fees
Costs of the program are covered by the individual's Medicaid Waiver funding.

Approximately 1 staff member for every 6 clients.
- Are there any opportunities for paid work in DT?
Yes, clients have the opportunity to learn a variety of assembly and packaging jobs. They are paid by the piece for the work that they do.
